ALG Summer Arts Camp returns for 2010 with three new sessions to inspire and delight your children over the long, hot summer months! ALG is located at Grace Lutheran Church, an air-conditioned facility located at 16th and Varnum Streets NW. Summer Arts Camp is led by a great team of professionals including a core group of preschool teachers who emphasize creative play during the school year and some visiting camp instructors who specialize in theater, music and guided creative play. The inimitable Oran Sandel, 23 year veteran of Living Stage Theatre, will be back for Sessions I and II. Campers should pack their swimming gear and towels because there will be lots of water play sprinklers, pools and water tables every morning! In our beautiful, shaded and fully fenced side yard kids can run, dig, and bring their creative play into nature. Each session includes an exciting field trip (small additional fee may apply.) Choose one, two or all three sessions!
Flying! Tall Tales! Water! Every session is filled with action packed creative fun, including directed art activities, story time, free play, and lots of water play in ALGs fabulous courtyard. The summer camp day runs from 9am to 3pm. All campers must be potty trained.
Up Up and Fly Away!
Session 1: June 14th June 25th
Calling all birds! Calling all pilots! Come fly with us this summer! Build yourself a cozy nest at ALG to re-enact all the ancient myths of flying. Come learn at the knee of paper airplane maestro Jose and make those paper airplanes that circle back to you! Discover the secrets behind what makes bird's bones able to fly and go on field trips to see planes up close. Finally, work to build our own flying machine to see where our flight takes us!
Tellin' Tall Tales
Session II: June 28 July 9 (no camp July 5rd)
Come on up to the ALG porch and sit for a spell while we spin traditional tales! We'll build log cabins, big and small, and pretend to be Paul Bunyan and Daniel Boone tromping around in our large tree shaded side yard.. Amazing story tellers Oran and Jose will regale us with traditional tales like John Henry and his hammer while we feast on homemade applesauce and biscuits. Come play with us: sewing, building, working with wood, story telling and of course swimming every morning in our pool....
Wet, Wonderful Water!
Session III: July 12 July 23
Come refresh yourself in the cool waters as we explore the mysteries of the deep! Come in your suit and swim in the pool and play with hoses and sprinkles and water tables all morning. We'll search for the lost city of Atlantis and gain insight to the enchanted kingdoms of mermaids. We'll build waterways using pipes and funnels and hoses and puzzle the eternal question, "What happens if...." We'll paint with water colors and learn what we can cook by freezing water (fruit popsicles anyone?) and by heating it up (pasta).
